Apparatus

Engine 341

  • The CAVFD owns two engines, which we rotate in their front line status to (unsuccessfully) try and control wear and tear. With the exception of the ambulance, these engines are the busiest units in the firehouse, running on calls ranging from medic locals to service calls to house fires.

  • Engine 341 is a 1991 Grumman FireCat with a 1250 gpm pump and a 600 gallon tank. 341 has been affectionately nicknamed "Dumbo" due to its distinctively large front tires. 341 also carries a basic compliment of engine company tools and has four preconnected attack lines.

  Engine 342

  • Engine 342, "The Deuce", is a 1994 Ferrara Intruder equipped with a 1500 gpm pump and a 600 gallon tank. 342 was set up to be a twin to 341, with only minor cosmetic differences. The purchase ofEngine 342 from the Baton Rouge, La. based Ferrera Fire Apparatus brought the members of the CAVFD to New Orleans for the first time. The trip was repeated as a department event for the next seven years.
  Truck 34

  • A 1998 Seagrave Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder, Truck 34 is well regarded by apparatus buffs throughout the Washington DC area. Truck 34 is the result of several years of planning by our dedicated apparatus committee. The ladder truck is designed with ease of use in mind, and traditional truck company functions such as ground ladders and scene lighting are well represented on this piece of apparatus. Truck 34 is equipped with 241 feet of ground ladders, almost unheard of in today's fire service. The truck also has a 20kw generator and 5500 watts of scene lighting. Four cord reels allow us to extend this lighting into buildings. The aerial ladder is a 250 lb. tip load all steel ladder, equipped with a ladder pipe for master stream operations. The equipment carried on Truck 34 is standard for most ladders in the area and includes four ventilation and forcible entry saws, a basic rope rescue compliment, air and electrically powered rescue saws, and porta-powers.
  Ambulance 348

  • "The Adventist Express" is a County owned 2003 Freightliner MedicMaster BLS unit. By far the busiest unit in the firehouse, Ambulance 348 is equipped with a standard compliment of Basic Life Support equipment. Ambulance 348 has been the center of many firehouse stories at the Chillum-Adelphi VFD, such as the time it was hijacked by a knife wielding patient or the time it was stolen from the scene of an assault call by an inebriated local looking for a way to get home.
  Chief 34

  • Chief 34's vehicle is a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria obtained through GSA surplus auction. The chief's vehicle serves not only as a command unit, but also as a personal vehicle for the Fire Chief as he conducts the business of the department.
